Recycling experts continue to focus on reducing diaper waste

Woosh, a recycling expert dedicated to tackling diaper waste, is celebrating its fourth anniversary. To date, the company has partnered with more than 1100 childcare centers in 20 locations in Ghent, Bruges and Mechelen, Belgium, to collect used diapers. Additionally, more than 22,000 children use Woosh circular diapers daily. These efforts are saving 15 million diapers from disposal each year. Most recently, Whoosh opened its sixth hub in Merelbeke, Belgium to strengthen its supply chain, enabling it to deliver even faster and greener to an additional 275 childcare centers in East and West Flanders. By shortening routes and streamlining deliveries in partnership with BDSL, Woosh significantly reduces CO₂ emissions. “While we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, we’re also looking ahead. Our ambition is very clear: to make sustainable, recyclable diapers the new standard in every childcare center and household. Through innovative solutions and strong partnerships, we’re building a circular economy where diaper waste becomes a thing of the past,” the company says. In May, Woosh launched its own diaper that is both optimized for recycling and contains recycled material. This ties in perfectly with Woosh’s plans to build its own recycling and R&D center in Bruges, Belgium with the ultimate goal of making the diaper chain circular. The Woosh diaper is premium quality and has been designed to make life easier for professional caregivers in daycare centers. To facilitate recycling, the diaper uses recyclable plastics such as polypropylene and polyethylene as much as possible and avoids materials such as cotton, PLA and PET in the diaper that might disrupt our innovative recycling process. Woosh has been partnering with Ontex since 2021 in its diaper collection and recycling efforts. The Belgium diaper maker has assisted Woosh in the development of the recycled diaper for Woosh which contains 100% recycled plastic for both the packaging and the waterproof inner layer of the diaper.
